SWABI: Awami National Party, Pakistan Peoples Party and Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam-F leaders have termed the failure of no-confidence vote against the Senate chairman black day for democracy.

Talking to Dawn on Friday, they said the real face of the government had been exposed and that the people should learn a lesson from the failure of the no-confidence motion.

Maulana Attaulhaq Darvaish, JUI-F provincial general secretary, said his party leadership had repeatedly called on the nation that the election held in July 2018 was not fair and that the ‘Senate drama’ had made it clear that how the democratic values were ‘flagrantly violated’.

Amanullah, ANP district president, said: “What happened in the Senate was against the spirit of democracy as the majority had been failed.”

Mohammad Ishfaq, ANP Razaar president, said it was great surprise that those with clear majority got defeated.

Naeem Khan, former divisional general secretary of PPP, and Javed Inqilabi, former district president, insisted that the entire world was laughing on Pakistan after the voting on no-trust motion against the Senate chairman.

BOY COMMITS SUICIDE: A 20-year-old boy committed suicide by consuming poisonous pills on Friday, said police.

The incident occurred in Shakrai area of Topi city and the boy was identified as Muzamil Khan, son of government contractor Sadiq Khan. It was learnt the boy exchanged hot words with his parents on some domestic issue and later, he consumed poisonous pills used to kill pesticides.

When the parents came to know they immediately took him to tehsil headquarters hospital where the doctors pronounced him dead.

CONDOLENCE REFERENCE: The Topi teachers society held a condolence reference to pay tribute to their colleague, Jehanzeb Khan, who passed away a week ago.

The speakers said Jehanzeb was a devoted teacher and always focused on imparting knowledge to youngsters during his teaching career spanning over 25 years.
