KARACHI, July 27: Various candidates of local government polls, as well as, political groups have started wall-chalking campaigns in different city areas, including Jamshed, Town, Saddar, Site and Baldia in violation of the polls code of conduct.

In these political graffiti, voters are being urged to vote for certain candidate or candidates backed by certain political parties. In some areas, banners from area residents have also sprung up.

A random survey of the city showed that wall chalking, display of banners and posters and distribution of pamphlets by candidates and their backers is rampant.

Another interesting aspect of the LG polls campaign is that all major political parties are openly running electoral campaigns for their candidates and group backed by them, despite the fact that these polls are being held on ‘non-party’ basis.

Ironically, ruling political parties seem more fervent than the opposition in running these poll campaigns, especially in the interior of Sindh.—PPI
