KARACHI: The supply of water to Karachi was suspended for hours following a power breakdown at the Dhabeji pumping station of the Karachi Water and Sewerage Board in the early hours of Saturday morning.

The KWSB said that a 72-inch pipeline burst due to the backlog of water as a result of the electricity failure.

The impact of the short supply of water would be felt in different areas of the metropolis including Landhi, Korangi, Shah Latif Town, Quaidabad, Gulshan, and Malir.

The KWSB said it would take at least eight to 10 hours to get the water pumps functional at their normal capacity again.

It asked people to conserve water.

Meanwhile, the K-Electric claimed that it prioritised power supply to KWSB’s strategic locations including its pumping stations at Dhabeji, Pipri and Gharo.

On Saturday, the electricity supply to the Dhabeji pumping station was swiftly restored, a KE spokesperson said, adding that all KWSB water pumping stations had been exempted from loadshedding.
