NAROWAL: Police claimed on Thursday to have arrested four members of a gang of robbers.

DSP Headquarters Rana Muhammad Jamil told a press conference that four members of Baba Luqman gang had been arrested. The gangsters would commit robberies in Narowal city and on New Lahore Road, Baddomalhi Road and Muridke Road.

On the direction of District Police Officer Zulfiqar Ahmad, three special teams were constituted to arrest the suspects. He said Luqman and Sufyan Masih (belonging to Narowal) and Kalash and Tanvir Masih (Sialkot) committed a number of robberies in Narowal, Shakargarh, Gujranwala and Sheikhupura.

Police have recovered cash, firearms, pump action, a rifle, a pistol and bullets from the gangsters. More than one dozen cases had been registered against them in Narowal alone.

CIVIL DEFENCE: The Bomb Disposal Squad defused 10 bombs during the last six months.

District Civil Defence Officer Asim Riaz Wahla said the squad conducted search and technical sweep for VIPs in 615 important places during the last six months. It defused three hand grenades, three mortar bombs and four anti-tank mines, he said.

He said 42 cases were registered against the shopkeepers who were illegally selling LPG, petrol and diesel. As many as 111 industrial, commercial, government and private institutions were challaned and fined Rs150,000.

He said a programme had been drawn up for the civil defence training of students of the government and private educational institutions.
