LAHORE: As many as 46,000 engineering aspirants seeking admissions to different universities of the province appeared in the entry test held by the University of Engineering and Technology (UET) Lahore on Sunday.

The UET organised a combined entry test for admissions to BSc Engineering and BSc Engineering Technology.

The test was held in 13 centres set up in different cities of the province to accommodate maximum number of students.

Out of the 46,000 students who took the test, 13,550 appeared at UET Lahore, 3,228 at Kala Shah Kaku Campus, 4,322 at Bahauddin Zakariya University (BZU) Multan, 5,891 at Islamabad, 5,532 at Faisalabad, 2,811 at Taxila, 2,509 in Sahiwal, 2,374 at Gujrat, 1198 at Rahim Yar Khan, 1,533 at Bahawalpur, 598 at Mianwali, 1,554 at NFC-IET Multan and 335 at Rasul centre.

The test result is likely to be declared on July 20 (Sunday midnight), while the answer key will be uploaded on the UET website at July 14-15 midnight so that students may make self-assessment of their performance. The students of FSc (pre-medical) also appeared in the test this year.

UET Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Syed Mansoor Sarwar visited all the examination centers. Talking to the media, he said, “Merit and transparency have been ensured in the entry test. However, the number of the candidates is higher than the number of seats available in the engineering institutions. In this context, we’ll ask the Pakistan Engineering Council (PEC) to increase seats. Resources and other facilities would also be ensured for this purpose.”

“There were no complaints from parents about the entry test and other arrangements. We are thankful to the district administration, city traffic police and other security agencies for their cooperation. Because of the heavy rain in the morning, there was some anxiety but thanks to Allah Almighty the test was not delayed or postponed,” he added.

To guide the students appearing in the 100-minute test information desks were set up where volunteers from various student societies of the UET provided necessary guidance to them.

UET Registrar Muhammad Asif, Public Relations Officer Dr Tanveer Qasim, Admission Committee Convener Dr Muhammad Ali Maud and other faculty members were also present.

The varsity administration had also designated waiting area for the parents who were accompanying the candidates. Prof. Dr Syed Mansoor Sarwar appreciated the admission office and the whole team involved in the process for making the arrangements.
