ISLAMABAD: After securing two gold medals in the Borneo Junior Open squash tournament, Pakistan players continued with their impressive performance on the opening day of the Penang Junior Open on Tuesday.

According to the information received here, Pakistan’s Abduallah Nawaz, who got by in the first round, comfortably defeated India’s Teerth Jilka in the U-13 second round match 11-0, 11-3, 11-4.

In U-15 first round, another Pakistani Humam Ahmad outclassed Kavlijeet Singh of Malaysia 11-1, 11-0, 11-0 while Humam’s compatriot Mohammad Hanif comfortably seized his opening-round match against Malaysia’s Euwen Liaw 11-7, 11-9, 11-7.

Meanwhile, Pakistan’s Hasnain Ali won his U-17 first-round clash against Ang Lin of Malaysia 11-9, 11-9, 11-7. However, Hasnain he lost his second-round match to Hong Kong’s Au Lap Man 11-5, 11-7, 11-2. Ashab Irfan, another Pakistani who got bye in the first round, won the second-round match against Malaysia’s Yugal Eshwar 11-3, 11-4, 11-6. Ashab’s compatriot Waleed Khalil, got bye in opening round but could not win his second-round match against New Zealand’s Leo Fatialova who won the match 11-9, 11-6, 11-7.

Pakistan’s Naveed-ur-Rehman will play his U-19 category match on Wednesday.

According to the Pakistan Squash Federation, Pakistan’s Amna Fayyaz easily defeated Lin Chia-Wei of Chinese Taipei 11-1, 11-0, 11-1 in the girls U-17 event.

Players from Malaysia, India, China, Japan, Korea, Thailand, Philippines, Australia, New Zealand, England, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Chinese Taipei, US, Singapore, Hong Kong, South Korea and Pakistan are participating in the event.
