Man, grandson drown in canal

OKARA, July 24: A man and his grandson were drowned in the canal here on Sunday. Reports said Sheikh Allah Ditta of Muhammad Yarwala village and his family members were going to Haveli Lakkha by a peter rickshaw.

On the way, the vehicle developed some technical fault, went out of control and fell into the canal. As a result of which Allah Ditta and his grandson drowned while four others were rescued.

SHOT DEAD: A man was shot dead while his friend sustained injuries here on Sunday over an old enmity.

Reports said Zamir Abbas, his friend Nazir and uncle Shahid Iqbal were returning home by a motorbike from their agricultural farm at Awan Ottar village. On the way, their rivals, Muhammad Arshad and Munawwar, opened fire killing Zamir Abbas on the spot. Nazir was shifted to hospital.

DIES: Known spiritual figure Dada Jan Muhammad’s caretaker Mian Manzoor Husain died of a protracted illness here.

He was 80. He was the father-in-law of former DBA president Qari Muhammad Rafique. He was laid to rest in his native village Thatta Mianna Kaku, some 30km away from the city.
