KARACHI, July 24: The Gorakh Development Project will be completed by June 2006, a meeting chaired by the Chief Secretary, Fazalur Rehman, was told on Saturday.

According to details, the meeting was held in the office of the chief secretary to review progress of the Gorakh Development Project.

Additional Chief Secretary (Development) Ghulam Sarwar Khero told the meeting that a 60-km road would be completed by December to link the Gorakh Hill to rest of the country, while the whole uplift project would be completed by next June.

The meeting was told that work was in progress on a water scheme to supply water to a population of 10,000 there, while steps were also being taken to obtain water through traditional methods like hill springs.

It was said that after the completion of uplift work, the people of Sindh would not need to go to the Northern Areas or Murree for visits.

The chief secretary expressed satisfaction over the pace of uplift work and said that steps should be taken to promote tourism in Sindh.

He said special attention should be paid towards extensive tree plantation in the area, adding that Gorakh should be developed into a tourist resort like the Daman-i-Koh and Murree.

Mr Fazal also instructed the concerned officials to ensure weekly washing of roads and trees in and around the premises of the Sindh Secretariat. He also stressed on proper repair and maintenance of the Tughlaq House.—PPI
