KOHAT: The officials of water supply company and district and tehsil nazims joined hands at a coordination meeting with the commissioner, Kohat, to resolve the problem of acute shortage of water which has hit the city.

The meeting in this regard was chaired by commissioner Syed Abdul Jabbar Shah and attended by chief executive officer of Water Supply and Sanitation Company Arif Rauf, tehsil nazim Malik Taimoor, district nazim Naseem Afridi and tehsil municipal officer Hamid Mansoor.

Malik Taimoor told this correspondent that the WSSC raised its issues of funds shortage, collection of bills, absence of dumping site and incomplete recycling plant at the meeting.

“I asked the CEO of WSSC to leave the issues of his department and first of all resolve the problem of water shortage because people are knocking at his door the whole night. He showed him messages where people said that there was no water even for ablution for Friday prayers,” he said.

It was suggested that the Pesco should be asked to ensure smooth supply of electricity at 3am and 3pm so that the WSSC overhead tanks were full for supply of water to the people for at least one hour twice a day without disruption. It was also agreed that during this period of shortage of water the leaves of the tubewell operators should be cancelled so that they could operate the pumps during the night.

The commissioner directed the WSSC CEO to talk to the Pesco executive engineer for provision of electricity during the night and in the afternoon for filling the tanks.
