HARIPUR: A couple was shot dead in the name of honour by the family members of the woman in Sera-i-Saleh here on Monday.

One of the accused, however, was arrested along with the weapon used in the crime, police said.

Witnesses and police said a woman, resident of Lower Kohistan district, had married with a serving constable of Mansehra police a few months ago without the consent of her family.

The couple, fearing backlash from the family, had shifted to Dheri Ali Khan village, a suburban locality near Sera-i-Saleh town. On Monday evening, the woman was waiting for her husband on GT Road when her brother came there and opened fire, killing her on the spot. The assailant’s other brothers stopped a car at some distance from the place where the woman was shot dead and resorted to indiscriminate fire, killing her husband on the spot. Two other inmates of the car sustained injuries.

ASI Sera-i-Saleh police station Siddique Khan, who was on way back to the police station after attending a court hearing, seeing the man committing the murder caught hold of him after a chase through the Sera-i-Saleh Bazaar. However, his other accomplices, who murdered the policeman, were still at large.

Meanwhile, a teenage girl committed suicide over unknown reasons in Basti Sher Khan, police said on Monday.

The victim aged 16 had an altercation with her mother over some household chores, according to her father.
