RAHIM YAR KHAN: A Sadiqabad-based 330kg man, suffering from extreme obesity, was airlifted in an army helicopter to Lahore for treatment on Tuesday evening.

Responding to the appeal of Noorul Hasan, a resident of Mohallah Islampura of Sadiqabad, on social media, Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Gen Qamar Javed Bajwa had issued directions for special medical treatment of Hassan.

Sadiqabad Assistant Commissioner Kashif Dogar told Dawn that Hassan, 55, could not travel in an ambulance by road due to his weight. He said Hasan was a poor taxi driver and residing in a small house.

On Tuesday, Mr Dogar added, the Rescue 1122 broke the main door and wall of Hasan’s house to bring him out and shifted him to a football ground on a mini-truck where a helipad was established. A special helicopter ambulance from Rawalpindi arrived in Sadiqabad in the morning but it could not land due to bad weather.

The helicopter landed in Multan and returned to Sadiqabad in the evening to take Hasan.

The assistant commissioner said specialist Dr Maazul Hassan would treat Noorul Hasan.

The relatives of Noor distributed sweets in their mohallah on shifting him to Lahore for treatment.
