I HAPPENED to visit the public park located in central market, Lala Rukh Wah Cantonment recently. I was shocked to see plastic bags lying in every nook and corner of the park as well as its surroundings. I feel a massive campaign is necessary all over the country to rid it of shopping bags.
There is a need for banning the manufacture of polythene bags in the country. This is easier said than done, but the government will have to get serious and impose its writ in the matter.
Second, the nation needs to be inculcated with the cleanliness habit. After a short media campaign promoting the same, the provincial and district authorities should ensure that littering is fined and repeat offenders made an example of.
The chief executive, the chief ministers and district authorities must ensure an end to littering.
