JHANG: A lawyer of the Jhang District Bar Association (DBA) was injured when a rival group led by the Bar vice president opened fire on him on Wednesday.

According to the application filed by DBA President Mehr Ghulam Farid Noul to police, he was going to the bar room with other lawyers when Vice President Nusrat Bokhari, along with his accomplices Ghulam Mujtaba, Badar Gujjar and Zahid Sanpal, opened fire on them as a result of which Mahmoodul Hassan, a senior member of the Bar, suffered a bullet injury on his leg and was shifted to the District Headquarters hopital.

The president and vice president of the DBA were elected to their respective offices in January this year but differences cropped up between them soon afterwards.

The main dispute was demolition of unauthorised chambers set up by some young lawyers and the president was in favour of dismantling these.

The acrimony between the two leaders aggravated to the point that they would often exchange harsh words and the membership of Nusrat Bokhari was eventually suspended and he was removed from the office of the vice president.

The VP tried to settle score by resorting to firing and the four assailants fled after the incident.
