HARIPUR: A picnicker drowned in the Khanpur Dam, while local divers rescued two of his friends here on Tuesday, police and witnesses said.

Khanpur police said three friends from Bhera village went to the Khanpur reservoir for beating the heat, but they drowned while bathing. However, local divers rescued two of them namely Awais and Abdul Kareem, while the third one later identified as Shehzad Khan died.

It may be added that the district administration has imposed ban on bathing in the reservoirs under section 144 of CrPC.

Meanwhile, a shepherd was critically injured when he touched a fallen transmission line, rescue sources said on Monday.

They said Nazar Din was grazing his goats near Mohallah Kachi Noor Colony when he accidentally touched a fallen high voltage transmission line.
