QUETTA: The Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) has registered an FIR against unidentified attackers in connection with an attempted suicide attack on Imambargah Nasirul Aza in the city a couple of days ago and started an investigation.

According to official sources, the would-be suicide bomber attired in a female dress tried to enter the Imambargah on Mecangi Road on Thursday. When a police constable deployed at the Imambargah’s gate stopped him, the intruder hurled a hand-grenade and started running. The grenade exploded near the gate leaving the constable injured. The constable, however, opened fire and killed the attacker.

The sources said the attacker was about 16 years old. Police shifted his body to a hospital for identification. But he has not yet been identified.

No group has so far claimed responsibility for the attempt of suicide attack on the Imambargah.

Meanwhile, Balochistan Chief Minister Jam Kamal Khan Alyani has appreciated the police for foiling the terror attempt on the Imambargah. He lauded the prompt and brave response of the police constable.

He said that the police constable guarding the Imambargah saved many lives by his bravery. He announced Rs1 million cash reward for the police constable.

The chief minister lauded performance of the police in eradicating terrorism from Balochistan. “The good performance of the police and other law enforcement agencies has a clear message for terrorists that they are ready to foil their nefarious designs,” he added.
