THE WEEK THAT WAS

Dolly Darling | Geo TV, 7.40pm daily

Surprisingly, the script lacks the signature Dr Yunis Butt crispness. There is plenty of over-the-top acting in each episode, in a story that revolves round the life of dimwit Dolly (Nadia Khan), her husband Mustaqeem (Aijazz Aslam) and her ditsy neighbour and close friend Bemisaal (Uroosa Siddiqui), as well as Bemisaal’s husband Andesha (Ali Rizvi).

Each episode offers a new shenanigan by Dolly — from wanting to buy new clothes, to making an NGO to protect dogs from being culled, or wanting to become an actor. You can spend around 20 minutes daily watching mindless junk TV, which isn’t very funny at all.

Suno Chanda Season 2 | Hum TV, 9.10pm daily

In Season One, the viewers lapped up Ajiya (Iqra Aziz) and Arsal (Farhan Saeed)’s rom-com antics, culminating in a big, fat wedding, which set the stage for a second season. But so far, the sequel is just drowning in brand endorsements and a bit of overacting by Iqra Aziz, and Arsal and Ajiya have become sidelined despite Ajiya expecting a baby. Thankfully, the support cast has stepped in to save the show with their lively performances. Nadia Afgan as Ajiya’s mum-in-law Shahana, Arjumand Rahim as Parveen — who is Shahana’s cousin — and Parveen’s son Mithu (Raza Talish) help to keep the serial a fun ride.

What To Watch Out For

Croron Mein Khel | Bol TV, 11.00pm daily

No more push-ups, no more inane games and no more flukes that saturate other game shows on TV hosted by male actors. Finally, for the educated among us, we have Maria Wasti hosting a general knowledge game show with a live audience. After six months of hosting celebrity contestants, the show is now open to the general public and the prizes include smart phones, laptops, home appliances, diamond and gold jewellery, as well as a Mercedes and an apartment. Wasti misleads the winning contestants in her most charming way, but it would have been better had she brushed up her own general knowledge just a little bit, instead of asking a contestant IT specialist what information he provides!
