UPPER DIR: The local people have started work to repair the main Doog Dara road on self-help basis as they say that elected representatives of the area have disappointed them.

They started repair work on the dilapidated road from Daramdala, a gateway village of the Doog Dara, some three days ago.

A group of volunteers of a local charity organisation, Maina Doog Falahitanzim, took the initiative of repairing the road.

Abdullah, one of the volunteers, said that they had been demanding repair and reconstruction of the road for the last many years but no avail. He said that the road had been in dilapidated condition for the last several years.

He said that residents of the area faced numerous problems owing to the dilapidated condition of the road. He alleged that elected representatives of the area ignored the issue completely.

Ihsanullah, another volunteer, said that members of their organisation decided to repair the road when they were disappointed by the elected representatives.

The local people repaired six-kilometre road from Darmdala to Maina Doog. They said that they would repair the entire road.

They met with the additional deputy commissioner, Musarrat Zaman, in his office to discuss the issue and seek some assistance from the administration in the repair work.

Mr Zaman provided a tractor to them. He assured them that the road would be carpeted soon and their problems would be resolved.

The residents of Doog Dara thanked the district administration, however, they demanded of their elected representatives to pay attention to the dilapidated condition of road and allocate funds for its reconstruction.

They threatened march on Peshawar if their demand was not accepted soon.
