HYDERABAD, July 18: Sindh National Party chairman Ameer Bhambhro has said that local body elections will not be held in an impartial and transparent manner and for that reason the SNP has decided to contact all democratic and nationalist parties of Sindh to boycott the elections. He was speaking at a news conference at the press club here on Sunday.

He said despite strong protests from three provinces for the last many years, the rulers were determined to build Kalabagh dam.

He said judicious distribution of resources had not been announced by the NFC and poverty was on the increase and the federal government was taking over Sindh’s highways on the pretext of building motorways.

He said on the invitation of a particular ethnic party, the prime minister was visiting Sindh and tens of millions of rupees were being spent on his visit.

Mr Bhambhro said the entire government machinery was being used to ensure the success of the public meeting and Latifabad was wearing a bridal look.

He said many a road and hospital could have been constructed with the money spent on the prime minister’s visit.

He said the prime minister had launched an election campaign for the ethnic party.

He said the rulers were encouraging ethnicity in Sindh and this was the reason that Hyderabad district had been divided into four districts while Gujranwala was given the status of city district government by including adjoining towns into it.

He said it was really strange that flood-like situation existed in the Indus River but whole of Sindh was crying hoarse for water.

He said impartial and transparent elections could not be held unless federal and provincial governments were sacked.

He demanded that a new election commissioner be appointed, elections be held under the supervision of army, transfers of bureaucrats be stopped and victimization of political opponents be brought to an end.
