KARACHI: Inspector General of Police, Sindh, Dr Syed Kaleem Imam on Monday directed the city police chief, AIG Dr Amir Ahmed Shaikh, to prepare recommendations for establishing a separate ‘anti-motorcycle-lifting unit’ in the Anti-Car Lifting Cell of the police to curb growing motorcycle thefts.

The provincial police chief issued these directions while presiding over a law and order meeting at the Central Police Office.

The city police chief briefed the participants on the overall law and order situation in the metropolis and claimed that as compared to last year, crimes had decreased this year thanks to the police’s “effective strategy”.

Mr Imam directed him to hold meetings with motorbike manufacturing firms so that trackers and emergency kits be installed in new motorbikes and insurance was ensured.

The IG also asked the officers for an effective crackdown on those persons who filed “false” FIRs.

He also issued directions for coordination with market associations to ensure effective security steps during Ramazan.

The DIGs of the city and other senior officers attended the meeting.
