KARACHI, July 17: Sindh Governor Dr Ishratul Ibad has said that a two-way strategy will have to be pursued for the progress of the country and to earn a respectful place for it in the world.

“For this purpose, we will have to protect our vital interests on the one hand, and project ourselves as a civilized, enlightened, democratic nation which is also guardian of human rights on the other,” he said while talking to a study group from the Command and Staff College which called on him at the Governor’s House here on Saturday evening.

The governor observed that world nations were looking upon each other in the backdrop of the headway being achieved in these fields, and Pakistan was also being looked at with a deep insight.

“In this regard, we need a major transformation, he said stressing the need for great patience and endurance to traverse the stages of development.”

He pointed out that a democratic process was continuing in the country and collective efforts were required for its sustenance and stabilization. No one from any quarter should disrupt it, he added.

Condemning acts of terrorism and extremism, he emphasized on undoing every factor leading to this trend.

He said whatever steps already taken for revival of the economy needed to be consolidated and strengthened.

About Karachi, he said that the economic hub of the country had now managed to improve its image and a positive impression about it had now developed the world over. More attention, however, was required to improve the same further, he added.

He told the visitors that because of the improvement brought about in conditions, the city’s traditional hustle and bustle had returned. Great activity at beaches and recreational spots till late in the night could be witnessed, he pointed out.
