APROPOS the letter ‘Exquisite cuisine’ (May 14). I would like to reinforce the writer’s point of view that providing deer and ostrich meat appears to be a little extravagant .

In Karachi, there are hundreds of roadside restaurants providing cheap food for the poor at Rs50 or Rs60 per person and you can see people lined up to obtain such food. In an environment where staple food, like dal chawal or nihari roti, are beyond the reach of many, providing deer and ostrich meat is waste and luxury.

While one appreciates the efforts and intention of the concerned welfare organisation and its focal person, it would be more appropriate if this NGO provide reasonably priced food to the needy all year round instead of only in the holy month of Ramazan.
