KARACHI: The Jamaat-i-Islami (JI) has condemned the recent increase in water tariff and demanded that the Sindh government withdraw it immediately.

In a statement, JI Karachi chief Hafiz Naeemur Rehman termed the latest increase in the water tariff by nine per cent an “anti-people decision”.

He said instead of supplying water to the people, the Sindh government was taking more interest in unjustifiably raising the tariff.

“The delay in completion of the K-IV [water supply scheme] is increasing the estimated cost of the mega project and the past and current governments are equally responsible for this,” he said adding that most of the city areas were still deprived of water.
