BAHAWALPUR: A man tested positive for dengue virus here on Sunday.

According to doctors at the emergency ward of Bahawal Victoria Hospital (BVH), Muhammad Farooq of Ahmedpur East was brought to the hospital with high fever where his test for dengue virus turned out positive. He was then shifted to the BVH isolation ward for treatment.

Doctors refused to provide more details about the dengue virus treatment at the BVH.

Meanwhile, a couple tested positive for HIV on Saturday at the BVH. According to doctors, a pregnant woman was tested positive for HIV. Earlier, her husband had also been detected with the virus.

With the BVH lacking facilities to treat HIV positive patients, the couple was sent to Nishtar Hospital, Multan.

LG ACT IMPLEMENTATION: Following the assent of the Punjab governor to the local government bill and its conversion into an Act paving the way for dissolution of local government institutions, the government’s administrators assumed charge of the respective LG bodies in Bahawalpur district on Sunday.

Bahawalpur Local Government Deputy Director Malik Khursheed Ahmed told Dawn that the Divisional Commissioner Nayyar Iqbal and Deputy Commissioner Shozeb Saeed assumed charges on Sunday as administrators of the Municipal Corporation and District Council, respectively.

Waseem Ahmed, the personal assistant to the commissioner, confirmed that Mr Iqbal had taken over as the Municipal Corporation administrator and intimated the government in this regard.

Malik Khursheed, who also assumed charge as the administrator of all 109 union councils in the district, added that assistant commissioners Tayyab Ahmed, Bilawal Mustafa, Waqar Ahmed and Muhammad Abid assumed charge of administrators of the Hasilpur, Khairpur Tamewali, Ahmedpur East and Yazman municipal committees.

Moreover, Waqar Ahmed also assumed the administrator’s charge of Uch Sharif Town Committee.

PRINCIPAL: Punjab Governor Chaudhry Sarwar has appointed Mr Peter Giddens as principal of Sadiq Public School here.

According to the Sadiq Public School spokesman, the new principal reached here and assumed the office.

Earlier, a press release stated that Mr Giddens, who belongs to New Zealand, was a former headmaster of Aitchison College Lahore senior school.
