LAHORE: The Lahore Arts Council is gearing up to hold its annual calligraphy exhibition, a permanent feature of the council’s visual art activities in Ramazan.
In the holy month, the LAC has planned a calligraphy exhibition at the Alhamra Art Gallery, The Mall, inviting calligraphers from all over the country to participate in the show. The deadline for the submissions is May 13 and there is no limitation of size or medium for the artworks.
Mina Haroon, Assistant Director of the gallery, said the artists could submit their works from Monday to Friday in the office hours. The exhibition is expected to be opened on May 16.
LAC Executive Director Ather Ali Khan said the exhibition would be a step towards bringing forward young calligraphers by displaying their works along with those of renowned artists.
Ms Haroon said calligraphy was the most powerful art form for highlighting the brilliance of the written word, and artists through such exhibitions bring innovation in this art.
She said the LAC had also organised a three-day workshop in collaboration with the Pakistan Calligraphy Artists’
Guild for the talented youth. The workshop would be held from may 21 to May 23 and those interested in learning calligraphy could register themselves till May 17.
She said there was no fee for attending the workshop and there were no perquisites for joining it.
The participants would be awarded certificates at the end of the workshop, she said, adding that the material would be provided by LAC and it would be a great learning experience for the participants.
