KARACHI, July 15: A 12-member delegation of the Bar Council of India, headed by Jaganath Patnaik, Chairman Bar council of India and Member, State Bar Council of Orissa, called on the Chief Justice, on Friday in Supreme Court Karachi Registry. The Chief Justice, Justice Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhry, in his welcome remarks, appreciated the increasing interaction between the legal and judicial fraternities of the two countries.

Such an interaction, he said, would help strengthen the bonds of friendship and amity between the peoples of the two countries.

He said the two countries have many similarities in their legal systems and system of judicial administration. They have common problems and issues, confronting their legal/judicial systems, he added.

The visit of the delegation has furnished a welcome opportunity to the legal luminaries of the two countries to exchange views and share experiences to learn from one another and help improve their legal systems and systems of judicial administration.

The Indian delegation leader, Jaganath Patnaik, Chairman, Bar Council of India, appreciated the kind gesture of the Chief Justice of Pakistan, and also expressed the hope that their interaction with members of bar and judicial authorities in Pakistan would usher in a new era of cooperation between the two countries.

The Chief Justice later presented a memento to the leader of Indian delegation on behalf of the judges of the Supreme Court.

The Indian delegation was also accompanied by members of Pakistan Bar Council. Judge of the Supreme Court of Pakistan, working in the Karachi Registry of the Supreme Court and the Registrar of the Court.—APP
