Army, Wapda fight for top position at National Boxing

ISLAMABAD: Defending champions Army are closely contesting Wapda in the National Boxing Championship here at the Pakistan Sports Complex.

The military men are leading by a margin of only one match after the end of the championship’s second day’s proceedings.

On Tuesday, Army’s Mohammad Ismail outclassed Abdul Samad of Railways 5-0 in the 56kg category match. While, Naqeeb Ullah from Wapda overpowered Baloch­istan’s Ilyas Hussain 5-0.

In another match, Niamat Ullah of Pakistan Air

Force beat Navy’s Arsalan Ali from and Ahmed Afridi from Sindh crushed Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Mohammad Wasim with the same score.

Earlier, in 75kg event, Army’s Saif-ul-Manan was given a walkover after his opponent M Amjad of Islamabad was declared unfit.

In the 81kg cvategory, Bilal Khan of Sindh beat Police’s M. Faheem while Adil Said of KP defeated Railways’ Shabir Ahmed.

In the 49kg Shoaib Rasheed of Sindh beat Mohammad Yasin of PAF 5-0 while in the 52kg event Mohammad Qasim of Balochistan knocked out Shahzeb Khan of Sindh in the second round.

Earlier, in the same event, Syed Mohammad Asif of Army beat Talal Hussain Islamabad while PAF’s Mehroz Ali downed Inam Ullah Khan of AJK. Atta Ullah of Wapda overcame Noor Ali of Railways in another match.
