World Bank CEO pledges to 'further strengthen cooperation with Pakistan'

World Bank CEO Kristalina Georgieva on Friday pledged to further strengthen cooperation with Pakistan in the areas of 'disbursements programme lending' and 'guarantees provision for raising external funds' , according to a press release received by Dawn.com.
The pledge was made in a meeting with Prime Minister Imran Khan on the sidelines of the second Belt and Road Forum (BRF) in Beijing.
According to the press release, issued by the Pakistani embassy in Beijing, the premier was accompanied by Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi, the PM's Adviser on Finance Abdul Hafeez Shaikh, and Advisor on Commerce Abdul Razaq Dawood for his meeting with the World Bank CEO.
PM Imran informed the World Bank CEO of recent steps taken by the government to improve the economic and fiscal situation of Pakistan.
As per the press release, he appreciated the role played by the World Bank in "regional connectivity, poverty alleviation, financial management, provisional projects, Dasu and other infrastructure projects and ease of doing business."
Additionally, the premier told Georgieva about the socio-economic uplift measures that the government has taken and about the creation of 'Ehsas', the PTI's flagship social welfare programme.

The premier also met with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) Managing Director Christine Lagarde on the sidelines of the BRF.
The prime minister had arrived in China yesterday on a four-day official visit. Earlier today in his keynote speech at the opening ceremony of the second BRF, he called for greater attention towards tackling climate change and poverty as Pakistan and China enter the next phase of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC).

The way PM shook hands and moved forward while the MD IMF was looking at him, was absolutely not courteous.
IK has to learn the diplomatic norms quickly.
By the way, a kind suggestion:
If he intends to meet Donald Trump, IK has to hold the hands very tight with him, Trump jerks the hands of the worlds leaders too hard. google how he jerked the hands of Canadian and French leaders :)

Again, in order to move the economy, Pak must invest in infrastructure i.e. roads, highways, bridges, tunnels, railways, airports and bus stations together with law and order and introduction of minimum wage for all job levels i.e. hourly as well as salary. When goods and people can move freely from one place to another without fear all over Pak and people make good money and have full confidence that law is there to protect them then the economy and everything else with it automatically moves/improves.

Impressive PM IK is totally involved and brief of IMF, the new FM experience will results in getting a best possible loan with workable demands ! One thing is sure the funds will be used for Pakistan ,because the new PM is not interested in his own wealth building. Plus,new FM will try to put in solid economic plans for Pakistan !

Why would foreign bankers be interested in lending to Pakistan or restructure the outstanding loans, if the country's economy was failing? How would these bank recoup their investment then??
PML-N disgruntled and rejected underlings are busy trying to fine holes in everything IK is doing. But they don't seem to have the grey matter to ask:
"Why does Pakistan need further loans? Who left the country is such dire straits? What happened to all the money that was previously borrowed by the previous government?

So our PM has finally caved to the same things he predecessors did. The World Bank is half the reason why we are in debt. We cant even afford the interest payments and now we are asking for money/loan?
