APROPOS the letter ‘Govt pensioners’(April 16). I would like to suggest that the government adopt more progressive steps for legislation in this respect. Allow me to point out that the party sitting on treasury benches —Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf — has already committed itself to the establishment of an Islamic welfare state.

In view of the above it is only fair that officials who retire at a certain position should get the same pension and facilities.

Across the border in India, the government issued an OROP notification in Sept 2018, allowing ‘one rank one pension.

This was a long-standing demand of the Indian armed forces veterans that the same pension for a rank, and length of service be enforced irrespective of the date of retirement.

The Pakistan government should consider the adoption of OROP as this is the least it can do for its senior citizens.
