Abid, Ashiq reach ranking tennis final

LAHORE: M Abid and Heera Ashiq qualified for the men’s singles final of the McDonald’s National Ranking Tennis Championship at PLTA courts on Monday.

Abid defeated Mian Bilal 6-3, 6-3 in the first semi-final while Heera outclassed Ahmad Kamil 6-0, 6-2.

Noor Malik of ZTBL and Esha Jawaz made it to the ladies’ singles final. In the first semi-final, Noor defeated Asfa Shahbaz 6-1, 6-0 while Esha crushed Zahra Suleman 6-0, 6-2.

In the boys’ U-18 semis, Ahmad Kamil beat Hasheesh Kumar 6-4, 6-1. The U-14 semis saw Mahatir Mohammad overpowering Huzaifa Khan 6-3, 6-2 and Shaeel Tahir defeating Bilal Asim 6-4, 6-3.

In the U-14 doubles semi-finals, Mahatir and Ahtesham Arif defeated Asad and Husnain Ali Rizwan 5-3, 4-2 while Shaeel and Hamza Jawad managed to win against Bilal Asim and Ahmad Nael 2-4, 5-3, 10-8.

In the U-12 semi-finals, Haider Ali Rizwan tamed his brother Husnain Ali Rizwan 5-3, 2-4, 5-3 while Asad beat Ahtesham Humayun (retired hurt) 0-4, 5-3.

In U-10 semis, Abubakar Talha beat Haniya Minhas 4-0, 2-4, 4-2 while Hamza Ali Rizwan downed Ameer Mazari 4-2, 4-3 (5).
