LAHORE: Newly appointed Punjab Inspector General of Police (IGP) retired Capt Arif Nawaz has warned that he will not tolerate inefficient police officers.

“I have a plan to introduce policies at the lower level to ensure provision of justice to the public to restore trust of the people in the police,” he said.

Mr Nawaz was addressing a meeting of senior police officers after assuming charge as the IGP at Central Police Office (CPO) here on Wednesday.

He lamented that complaints being received by the CPO from various districts showed that people could not get the required help from officers of these districts. He warned that the elements who considered themselves indispensible would be thrown out of the department because his top priority was to get rid of those involved in illegal activities and corruption.

Moreover, the IGP directed the senior officers of finance, welfare, operations, special branch, investigation, development and other units to brief him about their respective units to help introduce reforms.

Earlier, a change of command ceremony was organised in the presence of the senior command of Punjab police. Outgoing IGP Amjad Javed Saleemi handed over the traditional baton and command to Mr Nawaz.
