LAHORE: Commerce Secretary Ahmad Nawaz Sukhera says the textile sector has been able to sign export agreements worth $600 million at the four-day TEXPO Pakistan 2019 exhibition and called it “turnaround for the textile sector”.

Speaking to media persons at the closing session of the exhibition here on Sunday, Mr Sukhera said this second edition of TEXPO, after Karachi, was a flagship sector specific trade event that attracted 363 foreign buyers/ importers from over 50 countries to see the exhibits of 231 exhibitors including the fresh exporters.

The commerce secretary said the foreign buyers held about 5,000 Business-to-Business (B2B) meetings with the Pakistani exporters exhibiting their products at the expo. He said high profile meetings had also taken place with country delegations from, among others, Russia, Bahrain, the USA, China, Japan, the UK, Germany, Saudi Arabia, Afghanistan, Czech Republic, Vietnam, Nigeria and France.

Mr Sukhera said at least 10 MoUs had been signed, while negotiations were under way to sign more and more MoUs. He said the foreign delegates had also visited different factories in Lahore, Faisalabad and Sialkot. Mr Sukhera also said the foreigners had enjoyed their visit to Pakistan.

Prominent exporters as well as new exporters also spoke on the occasion explaining their experience at the TEXPO.
