KARACHI: Unidentified assailants stormed into a house in Manghopir and shot dead an infant girl on Saturday, police said.

They said that around three to four armed men entered the house near Garam Chashma in Manghopir at 3.30am and opened fire on people living there.

As a result, a bullet hit an around nine-month-old girl, Khadijah Mehmood, and she died. The assailants managed to escape.

Area SHO Irfan Asif said that the victim’s family originally hailed from Qambar district.

The officer said that a girl had allegedly escaped from Qambar and the attackers suspected that she had taken shelter at the house of the infant’s father, Mehmood.

The relatives told the police that they would lodge an FIR after the burial.
