LAKKI MARWAT: Adviser to the chief minister on elementary and secondary education, Ziaullah Bangash, has said that the Independent Monitoring Unit (IMU) is playing a vital role in improving quality of education in the province and that the government is committed to providing foolproof security to the monitoring staff, especially in the merged tribal districts.

After expressing his condolences with members of the bereaved family of IMU’s female data collector and monitoring assistant Ms Safia, Mr Bangash said that the enemies of education would be defeated with strong commitment.

Ms Safia was killed in an attack by miscreants in tribal subdivision here on Wednesday.

The attack had also left a Levies sepoy dead and four others injured in remote Gazboba locality of Lakki tribal subdivision. The adviser offered fateha for the deceased female official and expressed sympathies with her father and other family members.

CM’s adviser promises full security to monitoring officials

District education officer Nazir Ahmad Khan, assistant commissioner Eid Nawaz and IMU district monitoring officer Ishaq Wazir were also present on the occasion.

He also conveyed Chief Minister Mahmood Khan’s sympathies to the bereaved family and told them that besides announcing Shuhada package the CM had ordered quarters concerned for immediate arrest of the perpetrators.

“The independent monitoring unit has played a very important role in improving quality education,” he said.

Later, he visited the house of another female monitoring assistant Ms Sobia who had survived the attack and appreciated her for the courage she exhibited at the time of incident. He also visited CMH, Bannu, and inquired after those who had been injured in the attack.

SUPPORT FOR ORPHANS: Deputy commissioner Jehangir Azam Wazir has stressed the need for extending assistance to orphans, saying that helping people in distress, especially orphans, is collective responsibility of the society.

He was speaking as chief guest at the donors conference arranged by Al-Khidmat Foundation here at the town hall on Saturday.

Speaking on the occasion, the foundation’s provincial president Khalid Waqas said that Lakki Marwat district had around 3,000 orphan children who were looking towards humanitarian organisations to fulfil their dreams of getting quality education and basic amenities of life.

The DC promised that he would support three orphans for one year and would continue his support to the foundation’s orphans support programme.
