KARACHI, July 10: The Gharib Nawaz Group (GNG) has decided to actively participate in the forthcoming local body election at the national level. An announcement in this regard was made by the group’s chief and former federal minister Haji Mohammed Hanif Tayyab while addressing a local bodies’ convention chaired by Pirzada Ghulam Hussain Chishti on Sunday.

He said the group had the distinction of being active in almost every district of all the four provinces.

Haji Hanif Tayyab and Sahibzada Hamid Saeed Kazmi were authorised to make adjustments on seats with any other group. It was decided that the group would make electoral adjustments with those closer to its ideology.

Mr Tayyab said the group’s district office bearers throughout the country had been empowered to nominate candidates for the slots of nazim and naib-nazim in important cities and towns. They would consult office bearers at the provincial level if needed.

Full support was extended by Mufti Abdul Subhan Qadri, Allama Iqbal Hussain Shah Faizi, Allama Abrar Ahmed Rehmani, Pir Syed Abdul Qadir Jilani, Pir Syed Arshad Aslam Khairabadi, Allama Gul Mohammed Lashari, Maulana Mohammed Akram Saeedi, Hafiz Dur Mohammed and Sufi Syed Arshad Ali Shah.

The convention was also addressed by chairman Rabita Committee of the group Shabbir Ahmed Kazi, Alhaj Mohammed Rafi, Mohammed Saeed, Ghulam Hussain Chishti, Ghulam Murtaza Rizvi, Syed M. Alam Advocate, Riaz Bism and Ahmed Ali Rizvi. They highlighted the group’s policy matters.

Umme Habiba, on the occasion, said the group’s women wing would play a pivotal role in the local bodies’ election.—APP
