KARACHI, July 10: The Pakistan Muslim League (N) chief Mian Mohammad Nawaz Sharif has reiterated his stand that there could be no bargain on the constitution, parliament, judiciary and sovereignty of the country.

In a telephonic address to a gathering of district presidents and general secretaries of the party in a local hotel on Sunday, Mr Sharif said that real democracy could not be restored till the ‘usurpers’ were removed.

He praised the courage and role of the party workers and leaders who had remained loyal to the party and said he hoped that the party would fully participate in the local body elections and would emerge victorious.

Mr Sharif said that there was no room in the Muslim League for turncoats and asked other opposition parties not to allow such elements to return to their ranks.

Referring to the anti-land mafia law referred to by Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz he alleged that those who had passed the law were themselves involved in land grabbing and their act of removing his constitutional and democratic government was a clear proof of it.

Speaking on the occasion, PML-N chairman Raja Zafarul Haq stressed the need for an independent election commission for holding fair, free and transparent elections.

He demanded the appointment of a full-fledged chief election commissioner in place of the acting chief election commissioner.

Secretary-General Iqbal Zafar Jhagra said that the party could work out seat adjustments at the district level with any other party except those in the ruling coalition for fielding joint candidates.

He mentioned parties in the ARD, Tehreek-i-Insaf and the MMA with whom such arrangements could be made.

Earlier, Sindh PML-N’s acting president Mamnoon Hussain spoke about the party’s programme.
