Good reading and writing skills makes you quite competent in your school as well as in co-curricular activities. But both these skills are inter-related and boost one’s vocabulary. So the more you read, the better you are good in your writing which means you have good vocabulary to express well.

So how can you check out if you really know lots and lots of words? Worry not, as www.testyourvocab.com is the right website for you, to see how much you know.

Test your vocabulary is not an ordinary site to test your knowledge about words, the site is part of an independent American-Brazilian research project to measure vocabulary sizes according to age and education, and particularly to compare native learning rates with foreign language classroom learning rates.

As you open the site, you are given a quick three-part test: the first part with a handful of words to determine the general vocabulary level (Easy), a second part with a larger but narrower selection (bit hard) of words to determine the vocabulary level with greater precision. The site insists you to not assume the meaning, only check those you are so sure about. The third and a final step (optional) is a survey to collect statistical information, such as your age, gender and country, this estimates the level of your vocabulary accordingly. And then tells you the number of words you may know about.

The site provides accurate results for virtually everyone, from very small children to professional linguists. It can calculate vocabulary sizes from less than 100 words to more than 40,000 words.

For those interested in exactly how the test on the site works, please see the nitty-gritty details page. So if you are interested in taking your vocabulary test visit, http://www.testyourvocab.com/
