ISLAMABAD: Hundreds of people participated in the Islamabad Marathon on Sunday, which started from Kulsoom Chowk on 7th Avenue and culminated at Daman-i-Koh.

The marathon was organised by Street Champion, in collaboration with the Pakistan Sports Complex and Capital Development Authority (CDA). It was inaugurated by Adviser to the Prime Minister on CDA Affairs Ali Nawaz Awan.

The ‘open’ category was won by Naseemuddin, while Amar Abbasi won in the ‘amateur’ category. The U-12 event was won by Ahmed Khan and Nauman Satti won the U-14 competition.

The winner of the senior citizens category was Mohammad Bashir.

Speaking at its inauguration, Mr Awan said the government is taking steps to promote healthy activities and this marathon will be a part of the annual sports activities in the capital.

Winners were given trophies, and gifts were also distributed among the participants.

The organisers said that the Anti-Narcotics Force ran its campaign during races to sensitise the youth about narcotics, while health department officials joined in to raise awareness about tuberculosis (TB), since March 24 is observed as TB Day around the world.
