THE WEEK THAT WAS

Mera Rab Waaris | Geo TV, Thursdays 8.00pm

Jahanzeb Qamar’s story is about the beautiful but niqaab-donning Ayesha (Madiha Imam), who leads a full life while facing societal resistance against observing purdah. When Harris (Danish Taimoor, sporting longish hair and looking prettier than Madiha Imam) and his family visit Ayesha with a marriage proposal, they are thoroughly put off by her niqaab, but Ayesha hopelessly falls in love with him at first sight.

What To Watch Out For

Ranjha Ranjha Kardi | Hum TV, Saturdays 8.00pm

Despite her resignation to life as the mentally challenged Bhola’s (Imran Ashraf’s) wife, things take a nightmarish turn for Noori (Iqra Aziz). Under the influence of the wrong medications that his evil uncle Nusrat (Kashif Mehmood) has been administering with the intent to make him completely deranged, and provoked by his insincere friends, Bhola becomes an uncontrollable monster.

He loses his temper at the slightest, knocks over the washing machine because its sound rings in his head, and ends up violating Noori, destroying her mind, body and soul. This unprecedented turn in her life may make it impossible to now love and care for her husband, who is clueless of the damage he has done.

Cheekh | ARY, Saturdays 8.00pm

Now that Mannat (Saba Qamar) has filed an FIR against Wajeeh (Bilal Abbas) — her bratty brother-in-law — for murdering her bestfriend Nayab (Ushna Shah), his powerful family is only concerned about saving face and not in the least bothered about punishing Wajeeh for his crime. Brushing aside the pressure from her in-laws and even her mum (Gul-i-Rana), she stands alone in her resolve to find justice for Nayab.

Her last hope falls flat when her husband Shayan (Emaad Irfani) arrives from abroad and is fed a cock-and-bull story by his elder brother Yawer, so that all Shayan has for his wife is a cold shoulder.
