HARIPUR: Additional district judge Iftikhar Elahi has convicted a man of killing his father-in-law five years ago.

The court awarded life imprisonment and over Rs500,000 fine to Saeedur Rehman of Pind Hashim Khan village after finding him guilty of killing father-in-law over the estrangement of his wife in 2013.

Meanwhile, members of the district council and district public safety commission demanded the naming of the Haripur Trauma Centre after former district nazim, the late Raja Nasir Kiyani. The demand was made in separate meetings here on Thursday.

The council, which met with convener Agha Shabbir in the chair, paid tribute to the former nazim, who had died of cardiac arrest on Monday.

The councillors lauded Mr Kiyani for his political services and said the deceased always worked selflessly for the development of the residents.

The house unanimously adopted a resolution seeking the naming of the Haripur Trauma Centre after Mr Kiyani.

In the DPSC meeting, the speakers praised the former nazim for his public services and demanded financial support for his children. Noted among them were Masood Khan, Sadaqat Khan, Dr Khursheed Anwar, Abdul Rasheed Tanoli, Chaudhry Dad, Sajida Masjood, Javed Safdar, Iqbal Begum and Hina Khan.
