SHANGLA: Students of a private school launched a cleanliness drive in Bisham city here on Wednesday to create awareness of importance of cleanliness for the health of people.

Students, including girls, were carrying placards inscribed with messages highlighting importance of cleanliness. They marched through various streets of Bisham city, picked up trash and dumped the same at the designated site.

“The campaign is aimed at creating awareness among the people, particularly traders, as the city has been turned into a filth depot due to garbage and trash lying in the streets and causing trouble to pedestrians,” said, Romesa, a 4th grader.

“It was for the first time that girls also took part in the campaign. We should keep our bazaars clean like as our homes,” said Sadeed Hassan, a student of 9th class. Haya Bibi, a fifth grader, said that they cleaned the streets near the main bazaar, which was appreciated by the local elders.

TEHSIL STATUS: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has grated tehsil status to Martung.

Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf local leader Nawaz Mehmood Khan announced this while talking to mediapersons here in Bisham. He said that on his request Chief Minister Mahmood Khan had given tehsil status to Martung.

Mr Nawaz said that the people of Martung would now get the facilities of tehsil like Puran and Alpuri. He said that information minister Shaukat Yousafzai had played a key role in getting the status of tehsil for Martung sub-tehsil.

The local people celebrated the government’s decision on Tuesday and thanked the chief minister and his cabinet for this.

Meanwhile, deputy commissioner, Shangla, Fayaz Sherpao and assistant commissioners of respective tehsils visited the examination halls across the district to stop cheating in the ongoing SSC board exams.

The exams were being conducted under the Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education, Swat. The DC and other officials directed the examination staff to check cheating in the exams and take action against anyone found involved in use of unfair means.
