RAWALPINDI, Jan 12: Sardar Asmatullah has been elected the president of Rawalpindi Bar Association (RBA) for the year 2002- 03.

The RBA elections were held in the district court premises here on Saturday. The chairman of election committee, Syed Hamid Ali Bokhari, announced the final results.

Sardar Asmatullah bagged 466 votes whereas his rival, Raja Mohammad Idrees, managed to secure 246 votes.

Qari Abdul Rashid was elected the RBA vice-president with 481 votes as against his rival’s 231.

Bilal Qayyum was elected the joint-secretary with 550 votes.

Out of a total of 940 registered voters, 724 cast their votes.

The polling lasted from 8am to 4pm and was held in a peaceful atmosphere.— A Reporter
