KARACHI: The funeral prayers for police constable Habibullah Jarwar shot dead in Orangi Town late on Saturday night were held in his native village Khan Wah in Larkana district on Sunday.

The coffin of the martyred police constable was taken to his native village, where his funeral rites were performed.

The prayers were attended by Larkana DIG Irfan Baloch and other senior officers there.

The Iqbal Market police said that three policemen patrolling on two motorbikes rushed to Mansoor Nagar late on Saturday night after receiving information about a robbery there.

Seeing the police, the robbers opened fire on them. The police also returned fire and during the shootout, Constable Habibullah got wounded. The suspects escaped. The wounded policeman was initially taken to the nearby Sindh government Qatar Hospital, which referred him to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

This was the second killing of a policeman in the vicinity of the same area in a week in Orangi Town.

On March 4, Assistant Sub-Inspector Rizwan Karim of the Iqbal Market police was gunned down by armed motorcyclists in Orangi Town.

The chief minister of Sindh took notice of the incident and sought a detailed report from Additional IG of Karachi Dr Amir Ahmed Shaikh.
