KARACHI, July 7: Four pre-conference workshops about the ‘Third International Oncology and Nuclear Medicine Conference’ and ‘First International Conference on Paediatric Oncology’ were held at local hotel on Thursday. The first workshop was held on oncology nursing and was attended by 53 participants, who had come from various hospitals all over the country.

Various aspects of nursing care of cancer patient were discussed including nutrition in cancer, end of life spirituality, breaking the news and counselling.

A workshop on target volume conformal radiation therapy was conducted by Prof Chiricuta from Linburg, Germany.

He elaborately showed in a lucid manner the importance of target volume delineation.

He made presentation on head and neck, breast and pelvis, and through various exercises showed how to take the target volume in various situations.

In the workshop on osteoporosis, it was stated that osteoporosis was a common problem in postmenopausal women.

Dr Patric Suvee gave an overview on osteoporosis as well as the role of DEXA in osteoporosis. While Dr Mukhtar Baig elaborated on the value of bone marker in osteoporosis.

The session ended with an interactive session followed by a visit to the DEXA facility.—PPI
