LAKKI MARWAT: The residents of Haqdadabad area face acute shortage of drinking water as tehsil municipal administration has failed to repair the faulty power transformer of a water supply scheme despite lapse of over one week.

The power transformer was hit by lightning over a week ago that resulted into suspending supply of water to the entire urban locality. The residents of the urban area are dependent upon the only water supply scheme known as Shafqat Khan tubewell.

“Haqdadabad consists of thousands of households and many among them have no alternative source to get water,” said a resident of the area. He added that the entire area was in grip of water scarcity and local people had to fetch water in bottles and cans for domestic use.

Hamid, another resident of the area, said that delay in repairing the faulty transformer was beyond comprehension and showed lack of interest of the officials concerned in resolving issues of people. “The electricity transformer has been out of order for last around 10 days, causing acute shortage of water in the urban area,” he added.

Haji Anwar Kamal, the head of Lakki TMA water supply department, said that the faulty transformer was sent to mechanic for repairing. He said that the recent spell of rains caused delay in repairing of the transformer.
