BAHAWALPUR: Swine flu has claimed the life of a woman at the Bahawal Victoria Hospital (BVH) on Wednesday.

Haleema Bibi, 65, mother of BVH doctor Muhammad Umar, belonging to Alipur in Muzaffargarh was admitted to the emergency ward the other day and she was tested positive after which she was isolated and treated for H1N1.

Deceased’s another son Mureed Hussain, grandson Qasim, 28, and granddaughter Asma Bibi, 3, were also tested positive. They are under treatment at the emergency ward of the BVH.

BVH Emergency Ward Director Dr Aamir Bokhari told Dawn that Haleema Bibi’s three other family members were brought to the hospital. Haleema Bibi expired on Wednesday.

Dr Bokhari said the swine flu virus had come back due to sudden return of the chilly weather and rain and foggy conditions. Earlier, he added, the virus had subsided as there was a slight change in the weather conditions and by Jan 30, there was no patient attacked with this virus.

Chief Minister Usman Buzdar has taken notice of the death of a woman and sought a report from the officials of the health department.

BVH Medical Superintendent Dr Azizur Rehman told Dawn over cell phone that the chief minister was duly informed about the sudden death of a woman here and he asked the officials to create awareness among people.
