LAHORE: Punjab Assembly Speaker Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi has issued production orders for MPAs Abdul Aleem Khan and Khwaja Salman Rafique for the session starting on Wednesday (today).

Former provincial senior minister [in Usman Buzdar’s cabinet] Aleem Khan and former health minister of PML-N government Salman Rafique are in the custody of the National Accountability Bureau in connection with income beyond means and Paragon housing cases, respectively.

Speaker Elahi on Tuesday issued the production orders under Rules of Procedure of the Punjab Assembly for the session starting on Wednesday. In his written order to NAB chairman retired justice Javed Iqbal, he said both the MPAs should be produced in the assembly chambers on Wednesday morning.

Talking to reporters, Mr Elahi said as a speaker it was his duty to uphold the sanctity of the assembly. “I will continue making efforts in this regard,” he added.

Meanwhile, Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf leader Shaukat Basra called on Mr Elahi and exchanged views regarding political situation in the country.
