RAWALPINDI: A 12-year-old girl on Thursday told the police her stepfather had been raping her since her mother had died a few months ago.

The girl, who belongs to Swat, told the police her father had died when she was a child and that her mother had remarried soon after. She said her mother had died of kidney failure four months ago and that her stepfather had moved her and her brother with him to Rawalpindi from Peshawar.

She told the police that her stepfather had threatened to kill her if she told anyone he was raping her.

The Saddar Bairooni police registered a case and arrested the victim’s stepfather.

Assistant Sub-Inspector Asif Mehmood, who is leading the investigation into the case, told Dawn the accused, who is a property dealer, will be produced in court for remand.

He said the victim and her brother have been moved to the Child Protection Bureau.

Last month, a man was arrested in the limits of the Saddar Bairooni police for raping his daughter.
