Published July 4, 2005

KARACHI, July 3: A youth, who had informed police on June 26 about his kidnapping identifying himself as son of Senator Hafiz Hussain Ahmed, was arrested on Sunday. Police said that a man made a distress call on Madadgar 15 on June 26, identifying himself as Rashid Ahmed, son of the Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal senator, and claiming that he had been kidnapped.

The call created panic in the ranks of law-enforcement agencies. When police contacted the senator, he said his sons were safe.

The caller made four calls on 15 and insisted that he had been kidnapped and kept in a house in North Nazimabad.

The anti-violent crimes cell traced the phone number from which the calls had been made. The number had been issued to Ayub Anwari of Main Bazaar, Sundar Nagar, Faisalabad.
