LAHORE: The Pakistan People’s Party has hinted at extending its support for an in-house change at least in the Punjab Assembly by saying that it will be better for the province if Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi is elected as the chief minister.

“The PPP is in favour of constitutional and legal change in the province and if [Punjab Assembly Speaker] Pervaiz Elahi becomes the chief minister, it will be better for the province,” Punjab PPP Information Secretary Hassan Murtaza said while speaking at a ceremony held here on Wednesday to mark the birth anniversary of party’s founder chairman Zulfikar Ali Bhutto.

He, however, hastened to add that the party was not offering anyone the office of the provincial chief executive and that his pro-Chaudhry statement was in the backdrop of his qualities in running the House as speaker.

Mr Murtaza lamented that some ministers declared innocent citizens as terrorists and if the passersby had not saved the Sahiwal crime scene in their phones as video clips the incident too would have gone unnoticed.

He said the people, including PTI leader Andleeb Abbas, knew Zeeshan Javed well and unlike terrorists he was living in his own house.

The PPP leader demanded that the prime minister and Punjab chief minister resign for ensuring a fair trial into the killings.
