MARDAN: Awami National Party and Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf here have geared up efforts to win the slot of Mardan district nazim, election for which is scheduled to be held on January 28. The slot of district nazim was vacated by Himayatullah Mayar of Awami National Party to contest the 2018 general elections. Later, Waqar Ahmad of PTI was elected as officiating nazim after obtaining 57 votes.

The election for a permanent district nazim is now scheduled to be held on January 28. Talking to this correspondent, Mr Mayar said that they were in contact with other district councillors belonging to different political parties. He claimed that ANP being the largest party in the council would easily win the nazim seat.

However, he alleged that PTI was indulging in horse-trading to get majority votes for its candidate.

Talking to this correspondent, acting nazim Waqar Khan, however, rejected allegations of ANP and claimed that PTI was the largest party in the council. He said that it was PTI leadership and activists who had brought positive change in politics of the country. He also claimed that they would win the election for the slot of district nazim as they enjoyed support of majority of the members in the house.
